WESTERN NEVADA AND EASTERN CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RENO NV 900 PM PST FRI DEC 14 2001 A SURFACE HIGH HAS DEVELOPED OVER THE GREAT BASIN UNDER COLD NORTH WINDS ALOFT. LIGHT UPSLOPE SNOW ALONG THE EAST SLOPES OF THE SIERRA IN MONO COUNTY SHOULD DIMINISH SLOWLY OVERNIGHT WITH DRYING IN WEAK SUBSIDENCE. OTHERWISE THE SATELLITE SHOWS PARTIAL CLEARING WITH PATCHY MID CLOUDS IN THE STRONG NORTH FLOW. TEMPERATURES OVER MUCH OF NORTHEAST CA TO WESTERN NV ARE ALREADY IN THE TEENS AND LOW 20S. SOME SINGLE DIGIT LOWS ARE LIKELY...ESPECIALLY WHERE THERE IS A SNOW COVER. WEAK OVER RUNNING MOVES ACROSS NORTHERN CA SATURDAY. THE MODELS SUGGEST SLOWER EASTWARD PROGRESS OF ANY LIGHT OVER RUNNING PRECIPITATION AND ALSO PERHAPS NOT QUITE AS FAR SOUTH AS IN THE CURRENT FORECASTS. SOME SPOTTY LIGHT SNOW COULD CONTINUE OVER WESTERN NEVADA SATURDAY NIGHT WITH WEAK WARM ADVECTION INTO MOIST LOWER LEVELS NORTH OF ABOUT HIGHWAY 50. CONSIDERABLE CLOUD COVER IN THE AREA NORTH OF HIGHWAY 50 SHOULD HOLD UP THE LOWS SATURDAY NIGHT A LITTLE. THE LOWER LEVEL AIRMASS DRIES IN WEST WINDS ALOFT SUNDAY WHILE SKIES REMAIN PARTLY CLOUDY WITH VARIABLE MID AND HIGH LEVEL RH. OSTERMAN. .REV...NONE.
