Heavy rain fell from Prescott Valley to south of Prescott between 1130 AM and 210 PM. Local rainfall rates exceeded two inches per hour. Four feet of water washed out part of Joan Drive in Diamond Valley south of Prescott where 2.67 inches of rain fell in 70 minutes. Three to four inches of rain and mud slides were reported south of Prescott Valley.

NORTHERN ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ 900 AM MST FRI AUG 03 2001 .SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE CENTRAL PLAINS IS FORECAST TO BUILD WESTWARD TOWARDS ARIZONA. THIS WILL CAUSE A CONTINUATION OF THE MOIST SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST FLOW OVER THE AREA. MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL FEED UP INTO NORTHERN ARIZONA THROUGH NEXT WEEK...WITH DAILY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUING. .DISCUSSION...CLOUDS COVER A LARGE PART OF THE CWA THIS MORNING WITH SOME SHOWERS STILL OCCURRING OVER THE CENTRAL RIM AND AT KGCN. AREAS TO THE SOUTH ARE CLOUD FREE AND WILL HEAT UP RAPIDLY THIS MORNING. PWS OVER STATE VERY CLOSE TO WHAT THEY WERE 24H AGO. THERE IS NOT AS MUCH SYNOPTIC SCALE LIFT AS THERE WAS YESTERDAY AND LAST NIGHT. SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY WILL BE DRIVEN MORE BY SOLAR HEATING TODAY. LACK OF SHEAR AND RELATIVELY LIMITED INSTABILITY SHOULD MEAN THE GREATEST THREAT TODAY TO BE PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN AND SMALL HAIL OVER SOME AREAS. NO UPDATES PLANNED. MAS .FGZ...NONE.

A DEEP MOIST SOUTHERLY FLOW OVER ALL OF NORTHERN ARIZONA WILL PRODUCE ANOTHER ROUND OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS TODAY. STORMS WILL MOVE SLOWLY TO THE NORTH ADDING TO THE POSSIBILITY OF HEAVY RAIN.
