High Wind in Alaska, September 21 to 22, 2001
Again, strong winds were observed along the back side of a moderate low. Early Friday, the low was located just east of the Pribilofs at 977 mbs.

Again, strong winds were observed along the back side of a moderate low. Early Friday, the low was located just east of the Pribilofs at 977 mbs. The low moved southeast between Cold Bay and the western tip of Unimak Island later Friday, weakening as it moved southeast.Peak winds around the area...Adak - Northwest gusts of 62 mph between 2 and 3 am ADT Friday.Atka - Northwest gusts of 64 mph between midnight and 12:35 am ADT Sunday. Winds diminished below 60 mph by 7am ADT Sunday.Near Seguam Island - The "Sealand Innovator" reported sustained wind from the west northwest at 69 mph at 11 am ADT Friday.Although slightly under high wind thresholds, southeast winds around Dutch Harbor likely peaked close to 60 mph late Friday night and early Saturday.
