High Wind, Western Aleutians

A moderate front, located just west and southwest of Attu at 10 am AST Sunday was preceded by strong southeast winds. Gusts above 60 mph were reported at Shemya between 11:30 am and 2 pm Sunday. Sustained southeast winds close to 60 mph were also reported by a ship just ahead of the front late Sunday morning. As the front elongated eastward, winds ahead of the front diminished. Gusts in the 40-60 mph range were reported around Adak and Amchitka.
