Ice Storm in Texas, October 8 to 9, 2000
The combination of an upper level disturbance, upslope wind, and ample moisture combined to produce light drizzle during the morning across the Big Bend area. With temperatures hovering near freezing the drizzle soon resulted in ice formation.

The combination of an upper level disturbance, upslope wind, and ample moisture combined to produce light drizzle during the morning across the Big Bend area. With temperatures hovering near freezing the drizzle soon resulted in ice formation. By late morning ice had begun to accumulate on roads in Brewster county near Alpine and at the McDonald observatory in Jeff Davis county. During the early afternoon freezing drizzle resulted in power outages in Brewster county as up to 1/2 inch of ice accumulation was reported on power lines and trees. Light precipitation continued to fall into the early evening hours with reports of extensive tree damage in Alpine. Slick roads remained a hazard overnight particularly in the mountainous areas.
