Winter Storm in North Dakota, November 6 to 8, 2000
An area of surface low pressure dropped southeast out of Canada to the North Dakota and Minnesota border, bringing the first bout of winter weather to eastern North Dakota. A sharp temperature gradient developed on the back side of the low, and slowly progressed toward the Red River.

An area of surface low pressure dropped southeast out of Canada to the North Dakota and Minnesota border, bringing the first bout of winter weather to eastern North Dakota. A sharp temperature gradient developed on the back side of the low, and slowly progressed toward the Red River. Several counties bordering the Red River had 6 inches of snow over western portions of the county with very little snow reported along the river. Thus there was a sharp gradient from heavy snow amounts to very little. Wind speeds of 20 to 35 mph caused low visibilities due to blowing snow.
