A severe thunderstorm knocked down several trees in Holmdel Township. Lightning struck a home in Holmdel and created a hole in its roof. In Howell Township, lightning struck five separate homes. Two small fires ensued. One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Marble size hail also fell in Howell Township. GPU reported that 6,500 homes and businesses lost power in Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean Townships.
