Lightning struck a transformer on Old Bridge Turnpike in East Brunswick Township and knocked wires across the roadway. Other lightning strikes caused power outages in North Brunswick. GPU reported that 6,500 homes and businesses lost power in Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean Townships.
