Slowly drifting thunderstorms with torrential downpour caused flash flooding in Middlesex County, particularly in the northwest part of the county. Doppler Radar storm total estimates exceeded four inches in that part of the county. Most of the rain fell within a two hour period between 330 p.m. and 530 p.m. EDT. Roadway flooding and closures were reported in Middlesex Borough, Piscataway Township, South Amboy and South Plainfield Borough. In addition, New Jersey State Route 18 was closed in East Brunswick because of flooding. The storm total in New Brunswick was 3.22 inches.
