After 6 to 8 inches of rain fell across the Dilworth area, many basements filled with water.
Numerous county and township roads were washed out from the heavy rain. Street flooding was reported in both Ada and Gary.
Training thunderstorms dumped waves of rainfall across the Moorhead area. The official Moorhead NWS observer reported 7.31 inches of rain. This is believed to be a new 24 hour rainfall record for the Fargo-Moorhead area. The heavy rain halted traffic, inundated storm sewers, and knocked out electricity and phone service. One electrical substation in Moorhead failed when the water rose high enough to cause it to short out.
After 6 to 8 inches of rain fell across portions of Clay, Norman, and Mahnomen counties, runoff reached area rivers. The Wild Rice River at Hendrum rose nearly 13 feet over its flood stage of 17 feet. The Buffalo River at Hawley set a new record stage at 10.9 feet. The high water closed the underpass on Highway 10 in Hawley for several hours. The Hawley golf course and the park both had some flood damage. Northeast of Dilworth, the Buffalo River rose 9 feet above flood stage, flooding several homes. Highway 200 was closed east of Mahnomen due to high water. Crops suffered tremendously from the ponding of water in the fields. One-half of the acres planted in both Clay and Norman counties were damaged as well as a third of the acres planted in Mahnomen county. Whole sections of cropland were under water, as the Wild Rice River was reported to be several miles wide at some points west of Ada. A major washout occurred north of Twin Valley on county road 33, where a 30 foot section of the road was missing.
