Severe thunderstorms developed over Hampden County in western Massachusetts ahead of a cold front. Thunderstorm winds downed trees in Wilbraham. The same storms then produced dime size hail in West Springfield, Springfield, and Hampden. Lightning from another storm downed power lines in Northampton, causing a brief interruption in power. The storms then headed southeast across Connecticut and Rhode Island, then moved across coastal Bristol County in southeast Massachusetts. An amateur radio operator in Westport reported dime size hail, which covered the ground.
