The heat that gripped eastern Kansas in late August continued into September. Temperatures on the first 3 days of September were over 100 degrees at New Century Air Center, capping a string of 13 consecutive days of triple-digit heat. The hottest day was September 2, when temperatures climbed as high as 107 at New Century Air Center in Gardner. A cold front finally broke the extreme heat on September 4.
