An area of low pressure developed to the lee of Rockies on January 12. This low moved very rapidly eastward, reaching the Ohio Valley during the evening of January 12. The low then slowed down as it worked across the Mason-Dixon line early January 13. A secondary storm developed over Long Island sound. Moisture from this second ocean storm made it across the Litchfield hills, resulting in locally heavy snowfall. Norfolk reported 6.5 inches of accumulation.
