A lightning strike ignited a fire in the forest of northeast Monroe County on the afternoon of the 27th. The fire burned out of control for 4 days, consuming about 560 acres of woodlands. Fire fighters had a very hard time controlling the fire due to the adverse conditions of low relative humidities, gusty winds and no rainfall. No estimate of the cost of the damage was available.
