Flood in Oregon, August 10, 1999
Numerous slow-moving storms formed east of the Cascade Mountains in Deschutes and Crook counties during the afternoon and evening. As these storms moved towards the northwest at around 10 mph, very heavy rainfall amounts fell in scattered areas.

Numerous slow-moving storms formed east of the Cascade Mountains in Deschutes and Crook counties during the afternoon and evening. As these storms moved towards the northwest at around 10 mph, very heavy rainfall amounts fell in scattered areas. In Bend, one inch of rain fell in 1 1/2 hours. This led to widespread street flooding. Three out of the four underpasses on Highway 97 were flooded, damaging 10 cars. In addition, emergency management reported 6 basements flooded out in downtown Bend. The storm caused considerable damage at the Awbrey Glen golf course by washing rocks and topsoil over many of the fairways. Many of the new housing developments below Awbrey Butte had topsoil washed away. Other reports of heavy rain include 0.50 inches of rain in 30 minutes in Prineville, one inch of rain in Sunville, and 0.66 inches in one hour just south of La Pine. These storms brought the August precipitation total for Bend to 2.08 inches , just shy of the record for the entire month of August.
