Hurricane Dennis was responsible for these heavy rains across eastern North Carolina. In terms of flash flooding, the hardest hit counties were Carteret and Southern Craven. Cherry Point MCAS reported 6.09 inches of rainfall while Newport NWSO observed 7.07 inches.
