A strong pressure gradient developed across the northern plains, between a low over southern Ontario and a high building in from Montana. The peak wind across northwest Minnesota occurred at Hallock, with a gust of 69 mph. Bemidji had a gust to 59 mph and Crookston had a gust to 56 mph. Quite a bit of damage occurred to roofs, trees, signs, fences, and traffic signals. Minor power outages were reported, mostly from trees falling on the lines. The students at the Ulen-Hitterdal school were released early, when the wind damaged the roof. School officials feared pieces would break off and break classroom windows.
