A deepening area of low pressure moved across northern West Virginia, spreading heavy snowfall and high winds to Garrett County, Maryland. Total snowfall of 14 inches was reported in McHenry, with 12.5 inches in Accident. To compound problems, high winds gusting to over 60 MPH during the early morning hours of the 4th created blowing and drifting snow, making many secondary roads impassable. The combination of heavy snow and high winds downed numerous trees and power lines, creating power outages across the area.
