Prolonged heat and humidity set in around mid month and continued through the latter half of July. High temperatures were in the 90s for the last 14 days of the month, including a 98-degree reading on the 30th. High humidity sent afternoon heat indices to between 105 and 115 degrees. A Heat Advisory was in effect for over a week. Power usage approached or exceeded record levels. There was a slight increase in emergency room visits for heat exhaustion.
