The new year started with a vengeance weather wise as a major winter storm hit the area. A combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain left from about 4 inches of frozen precipitation on the ground across the area. Transportation across the area came to a stop for much of the holiday weekend. Very cold temperatures after the storm kept conditions icy into next week, keeping most area schools closed through the middle of the week.
