High Wind in Georgia, September 15 to 16, 1999
A tight pressure gradient between powerful Hurricane Floyd across eastern North Carolina and strong high pressure over the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes pulled cooler and very dry air south across the mountains of extreme northeast Georgia on strong north winds. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down, some on homes and vehicles due to winds sustained as high as 45 mph.
