A strong cold front moved through Delaware during the early evening of the 10th. The front was accompanied by strong gusty northwest winds. As a low pressure system intensified as it moved across northern New England into the Canadian Maritimes and a large high pressure system built east from the Northern Plains and the Great Lakes, gusty northwest winds continued throughout most of the night. The strongest gusts were in the northern part of the state. Peak wind gusts included 45 mph at the New Castle County Airport and 30 mph in Georgetown (Sussex County).
