Flash Flood in Colorado, July 28, 1999
Flash flooding between Gypsum and Dotsero resulted in large amounts of mud and rock being deposited on all four lanes of Interstate 70 as well as a frontage road which parallels the interstate. Boulders up to 3 feet in diameter rolled across the traffic lanes.

Flash flooding between Gypsum and Dotsero resulted in large amounts of mud and rock being deposited on all four lanes of Interstate 70 as well as a frontage road which parallels the interstate. Boulders up to 3 feet in diameter rolled across the traffic lanes. Traffic on Interstate 70 was backed up for more than four miles. It took road crews about two hours just to clear the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70. Miraculously, no vehicles were hit by the flash flood waters or debris flows.
