Intense rainfall in the vicinity of Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms turned roads into rivers and filled washes to capacity for a couple hours during the afternoon. Highway 62 was partially washed out and three motorists had to be rescued after their vehicles were caught in flood waters. Twelve homes in Twentynine Palms were damaged before the water began to recede between 5 and 6 p.m. PDT.
