A kneeboarder was overpowered by 8 to 10 foot waves off Sunset Cliffs Park. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead about 2 hours later. A 32 foot commercial fishing boat was swamped 20 miles southwest of Point Loma by large swells, the 2 man crew and a U. S. Coast Guard rescue team were forced to abandon the craft a few moments before it overturned and sank around 6 p.m.
