Several severe thunderstorms developed across the Big country during the early evening hours. The community of Hamlin in northern Jones County took the brunt of the storms, with 3 separate storms producing damaging hail. The first Hamlin storm was the strongest, producing golf ball to tennis ball size hail for over 20 minutes. Winds estimated at 80 mph combined with the large hail to break car and house windows, damage roofs, and knock down power poles and trees throughout the community. Hail and wind damage just in Hamlin was estimated at over 2 million dollars.
