The James River dropped below flood stage at Columbia in early May but remained above flood stage southwest of Stratford throughout the month. The James dropped below flood stage at Columbia 1 south on May 6th. Seven miles southwest of Stratford the James River reached a crest of 15.7 feet on May 25th where flood stage is 14 feet. Flooding of lowlands along the James and few county roads continued throughout May.
