Damaging Wind in Pennsylvania, June 26, 1998
A severe thunderstorm caused a swath of wind damage across the city of Philadelphia from Roxborough to Fishtown and Port Richmond. About 50 trees were uprooted in Fairmount Park alone and at least one vehicle was crushed by fallen trees.

A severe thunderstorm caused a swath of wind damage across the city of Philadelphia from Roxborough to Fishtown and Port Richmond. About 50 trees were uprooted in Fairmount Park alone and at least one vehicle was crushed by fallen trees. In addition, the wind threw scaffolding through four glass plated windows at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel sending shards of glass into the lobby. Banners for the "Welcome America" celebration were blown away and police sawhorses in the area rolled around like tumbleweeds. PECO energy reported about 140,000 customers lost power in their service area, with 45,000 outages within Philadelphia. The last 1,500 were back on line on Sunday the 28th.
