A severe thunderstorm knocked down trees and poles across a strip of central Chester County from Coatesville to Phoenixville. The worst damage occurred around the Coatesville area. Roads were closed in Birmingham, East Bradford (Pennsylvania State Route 842) and Westtown Townships. They were reopened that evening. PECO energy reported about 140,000 customers lost power in their service area, half of them in Chester County as 200 poles were knocked down. The last 1,500 were back on line on Sunday the 28th.
