Hail and Damaging Wind in Pennsylvania, June 26, 1998
A severe thunderstorm produced large hail and wind damage across southwestern Montgomery County, especially in townships near the Chester County border. The Rosemont area of Upper Merion Township was hit the hardest with around 50 trees down and twelve blocks closed within the township.

A severe thunderstorm produced large hail and wind damage across southwestern Montgomery County, especially in townships near the Chester County border. The Rosemont area of Upper Merion Township was hit the hardest with around 50 trees down and twelve blocks closed within the township. Downed trees were also reported in Collegeville (as well as large hail), Narberth and Pottstown. In Pottstown, a 120-foot tree fell through the extension of one house. Fallen trees also crushed vehicles in both Narberth and Pottstown. Fallen trees on the tracks also forced the suspension of the SEPTA commuter rail Bala Cynwyd line. PECO energy reported about 140,000 customers lost power in their service area, but only 9,000 in Montgomery County. The last 1,500 were back on line on Sunday the 28th.
