Multi-cell thunderstorms moved across the mountains and into the foothills during the evening hours. Some of the storms became severe and produced mainly wind damage. Winds were estimated as high as 75 mph in Rutherford county early in the evening, resulting in downed trees damaging several homes and a barn destoyed. A National Weather Service co-operative observer measured a 63 mph wind gust on Flat Top Mountain. A tree fell on a house in west Asheville as well as in Hickory. Elsewhere, scattered trees and some power lines were downed.
