An intense low pressure system off the Mid-Atlantic coast produced freezing rain across the Mid-Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills and southern Taconics. The freezing rain was occasionally mixed with sleet and wet snow. Icy roads caused many traffic accidents and school closings. In southern Columbia County, State Highway 82 was closed during the early morning hours due to several accidents.
