Damaging Winds and Lightning Strike in New York, August 23, 1998
A warm front lifting north across New York state produced numerous clusters of showers and thunderstorms late Sunday evening. One cell became severe as it moved down the Mohawk Valley into Montgomery and Fulton Counties.

A warm front lifting north across New York state produced numerous clusters of showers and thunderstorms late Sunday evening. One cell became severe as it moved down the Mohawk Valley into Montgomery and Fulton Counties. The storm downed numerous trees and power lines in Gloversville, Lock 10 in Cranesville and the town of Florida. In addition 1,000 customers were without power for as long as ten hours in eastern Montgomery County. Lightning caused a small fire in an attic of a home in Gloversville.
