Damaging Wind in New Jersey, June 26, 1998
A severe thunderstorm caused wind damage mainly on and around Long Beach Island. Wind gusts reached 67 mph and blew the roof off a Summit Bank in Ship Bottom.

A severe thunderstorm caused wind damage mainly on and around Long Beach Island. Wind gusts reached 67 mph and blew the roof off a Summit Bank in Ship Bottom. In Harvey Cedars several house windows were blown out and picnic tables overturned. On the mainland side trees were knocked down in Tuckerton and Manahawkin. One tree damaged a porch in Manahawkin. Cars were dented by wind driven shopping carts in Little Egg Township. Several boats capsized in Barnegat Bay and had their masts become stuck in the bottom of the bay. Some windsurfers on Barnegat Bay had to seek shelter on an island. A couple of boats were also sunk off of Ship Bottom and Harvey Cedars in the bay and a few others were blown onto the island. Peak wind gusts included 67 mph in Long Beach Township, 66 mph in Harvey Cedars, 62 mph in Seaside Park, 60 mph in Surf City and 59 mph in Waretown.
