A severe thunderstorm battered the northwest half of Burlington County with damaging winds, frequent lightning and large hail. Wind gusts were estimated to 70 mph in Mount Holly and 60 mph in Marlton.

A severe thunderstorm battered the northwest half of Burlington County with damaging winds, frequent lightning and large hail. Wind gusts were estimated to 70 mph in Mount Holly and 60 mph in Marlton. Burlington County emergency personnel responded to about 1,400 calls of assistance. In addition to the damaging winds, lightning detection systems were recording around 2,000 cloud-to-ground strikes within an hour as the thunderstorm crossed into Burlington and Camden Counties. PSE&G reported about 45,000 homes and businesses lost power, mainly in Burlington County. Large trees were uprooted in Evesham, Lumberton, Maple Shade (30 calls alone), Medford, Moorestown and the Vincentown area of Southampton Township. Quarter size hail fell in Mount Laurel. Dime to penny size hail fell in Maple Shade, Marlton and Mount Holly.
