Freezing drizzle began during the early morning hours and produced a thin glaze of ice across most roads. The hardest hit areas were in Central and East Central Missouri. Most schools across Central Missouri were closed as was the University of Missouri in Columbia. It was the first time since 1995 and only the third time since 1966 the University closed due to weather. At least 5 deaths and numerous injuries occurred in vehicle accidents due to the ice covered roads.
