Strong winds gusted over 50 mph in many areas. The strongest wind gusts officially reported were 54 mph at Concordia, Emporia, and Manhattan. Other measured wind gusts included 53 mph at Lawrence and 52 mph at Forbes Field Airport on the south side of Topeka. The wind broke several large tree limbs, knocked down a few road signs, and resulted in scattered minor power outages in Lawrence and Junction City. Also in Junction City the wind peeled back 10 feet of tin from the roof one trailer home.
