A very strong low level jet formed over the Central Plains during the early morning hours of the 26th with wind speeds in excess of 70 knots at times. Surface dew point temperatures were in the low 70s ahead of an approaching area of low pressure.

A very strong low level jet formed over the Central Plains during the early morning hours of the 26th with wind speeds in excess of 70 knots at times. Surface dew point temperatures were in the low 70s ahead of an approaching area of low pressure. Thunderstorms erupted along the northwest edge of the mid level cap before midnight with a line of thunderstorms progressing southeast across the northwest half of the state. Over northwest Iowa, a heat burst took place along the southeast edge of the of the line shortly before midnight. Temperatures rose into the upper 80s to low 90s from Sioux City to Estherville. Other than that, most of the storms produced only gusty winds and small hail. One storm dropped dime size hail briefly on the town of Clarion in Wright County. There was no other reports of severe weather however.
