A major winter storm moved through the central plains and created near blizzard conditions over portions of southwest Iowa. Heavy snowfall of 8 to 14 inches combined with strong northerly winds of 40 to 45 mph created considerable blowing snow with 6-15 foot drifts common.

A major winter storm moved through the central plains and created near blizzard conditions over portions of southwest Iowa. Heavy snowfall of 8 to 14 inches combined with strong northerly winds of 40 to 45 mph created considerable blowing snow with 6-15 foot drifts common. Schools and businesses were closed for a few days as the strong winds continued to cause blowing snow making the task of cleaning up very difficult.
