Lightning sparked three wildfires in the sparsely-populated 50,000-acre San Pedro Bay Forest, six miles northeast of Perry, consuming 30,213 acres. The Division of Forestry, Jefferson and Taylor County F.D., National Guard, and numerous state forestry departments, totalling more than 125 personnel, fought the blazes. A local state of emergency was declared for Taylor County on June 20.
