In the first 3 days of February Bakersfield received 1.62" of rain. With saturated soils a base level of 100CFS stream flow was already being observed from normally dry Caliente Creek down toward Lamont in the Southern San Joaquin Valley early on 2/4/98. No specfic reports of damage but ponding basins were filled and water flows were simply routed by town on city streets and adjacent farm land.
