Severe thunderstorms developed rapidly after midnight and moved north through the Upstate. Large and damaging hail was the primary effect although a significant downburst at Clemson blew down numerous trees and caused power outages across the university's campus. No official estimates of damage were received by the time of this writing, although damage to cars was reported to be extensive around Spartanburg county.
