A LARGE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM PRODUCED A SUSTAINED PERIOD OF DOWNBURST WINDS AND HAIL. THE DAMAGE PATH WAS 25 MILES LONG AND UP TO 2 MILES WIDE. IT EXTENDED FROM ANGIER...THROUGH BENSON THEN OVER TO BENTONVILLE. MANY FIELDS OF CORN, TOBACCO, AND BEANS WERE LEFT WITH ONLY STALKS STANDING. . MANY DOZENS OF TREES WERE EITHER SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. ALL TREES FELL TO THE SOUTH OR SOUTHEAST. DAMAGE SURVEYS SHOWED THAT 15 MANUFACTURED HOMES, FOUR SITE BUILD HOMES, AND THREE OUTBUILDINGS DAMAGED.
