With cold air in place, a low pressure system developed off the Mid-Atlantic Coast during the late afternoon and evening. The low intensified as it moved east-northeast away from the area overnight.The heaviest snow, which fell from 2 pm to around 8 pm on December 10th, made driving and walking hazardous. Two motorists lost control of their cars which resulted in accidents at 7:30 pm and 8:15 pm in Cortlandt. Wet snow also accumulated on trees, which caused some tree limbs to fall on power lines across higher terrain.
