The powerful low pressure system that dumped very heavy snow on sections of central and eastern New York also produced strong gusty winds during the day on the 1st. Across much of the western Catskills, gusts of 50 to 60 mph were common in the late morning and midday hours. Numerous large trees were blown down in Sullivan and Delaware counties. In Sullivan county, several road closures from felled trees and branches resulted, particularly in the Ponds Eddy area. Also, thousands of customers remained without power most of the day.
