Damaging Winds in New Jersey, July 18, 1997
The severe thunderstorms that caused extensive damage across Warren, Hunterdon, Morris and Somerset Counties pushed a gust front of damaging winds well ahead of them. The gust front moved through Mercer County and knocked down trees and power lines in Princeton where the wind gusts were estimated at 60 mph.

The severe thunderstorms that caused extensive damage across Warren, Hunterdon, Morris and Somerset Counties pushed a gust front of damaging winds well ahead of them. The gust front moved through Mercer County and knocked down trees and power lines in Princeton where the wind gusts were estimated at 60 mph. Farther south the gust front winds also knocked down wires in Lawrenceville. Public Service Electric and Gas reported 18,000 customers lost power because of the downed wires from this gust front throughout central New Jersey.
