On July 18, a cold front crossed eastern New York during the afternoon. With a hot and very humid airmass in place the front initiated severe thunderstorms across Herkimer, Hamilton, Warren, Fulton, Saratoga and Washington Counties. Thunderstorm winds downed numerous trees and wires across northern Herkimer County and Hamilton County. At Wilton in Saratoga County, an eighty foot pine tree fell on the corner of a house.
