Damaging Winds in Maryland, August 17, 1997
A severe thunderstorm caused scattered wind damage (downed trees and wires) throughout Talbot County with most of the reported damage in the northern half of the county. The same thunderstorm also helped capsize and sink the 25 foot pleasure craft Boston Whaler near Claiborne.

A severe thunderstorm caused scattered wind damage (downed trees and wires) throughout Talbot County with most of the reported damage in the northern half of the county. The same thunderstorm also helped capsize and sink the 25 foot pleasure craft Boston Whaler near Claiborne. The sole person on board swam ashore. The strong wind also caused two empty construction barges anchored near the Peach Blossom Creek Bridge to break loose. The barges drifted downstream and struck a piling.
