Multi-cell severe thunderstorms developed through the evening and spread progressively from the northwest to the southwest across Upstate South Carolina. Damaging winds blew down trees and power lines in all locations listed above.

Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.

Multi-cell severe thunderstorms developed through the evening and spread progressively from the northwest to the southwest across Upstate South Carolina. Damaging winds blew down trees and power lines in all locations listed above. Some of the highest winds may have occurred at Inman where the roof of a manufacturing plant was removed by the wind. There were numerous swaths of winds estimated at 60 mph. Lightning injured at least one person at Rock Hill. Numerous houses were struck by lightning across York county. In Starr a textile plant was struck early in the morning and burned to the ground putting 50 people out of work and causing millions in damage. Large hail, driven by the wind in many cases, stripped trees and caused property damage especially in Spartanburg and Greenville counties. A bridge was washed out by flash flooding in Anderson county.
