A severe thunderstorm took down numerous power lines and some trees and consequently caused power outages to about 80,000 Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO) homes in central and southern Bucks County. Trees were uprooted along Harper Avenue in Yardley.

A severe thunderstorm took down numerous power lines and some trees and consequently caused power outages to about 80,000 Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO) homes in central and southern Bucks County. Trees were uprooted along Harper Avenue in Yardley. The power outage set the stage for an apartment building fire. Thirty-two persons were made homeless in Lower Makefield Township after a candle started a fire. Bucks County was hardest hit, but 11,500 homes in Montgomery County, 9,600 residences within Philadelphia and 4,700 homes each in Chester and Delaware Counties also lost power. The latter outages were caused by lightning strikes. It took nearly 48 hours to restore power to everyone. Flash flooding in southern Bucks County exacerbated the power problems.
